They thought they were going to starve to death in desert.

FIFTH DAY: Read Exodus 15:1-21.

2”The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.

6 Your right hand, Lord, was majestic in power. Your right hand, Lord, shattered the enemy.

12 “You stretch out your right hand, and the earth swallows your enemies.

13 In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling.

The Lord is my savior. He is my strength and my defense. His mighty power shatters my entire enemy. He will always lead me and guide me and be with me.

My thankfulness to God for His help: Give thanks for Him always. Read His word. Follow His teaching. Live a life can make Him pleased.

Because of God’s unfailing love and strength, Moses predicted God would lead the Israel into the promised land-the land where the people of Philistia, Edom, Moab and Canaanites now live.

Moses saw God is faithful to Israel. He is almighty and full of mercy for His people. So Moses anticipated God’s future work will be done just as God has promised to Moses in Exodus 3:8 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.

FOURTH DAY: Read Exodus 13:17-14:31.

God knew the Israelites might change their minds and return to Egypt when they faced war. So God’s instructions to help the Israelites by not taking the shorter trip but toward the Red Sea and destroyed the entire army of Pharaoh who had followed the Israelites into the sea. Wow!

God said, “I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord”

c.

By God’s mighty power the sea was divided for the Israelite to pass but flowed back over Pharaoh and all his army, as well as his chariots and his horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.

d.

God have healed me from depression and gave me new hope by serving Him. I try to hold tight to Him daily.

14:31 And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.

I believe while I was desperate, no any hope in my heart then, God guided me back to church. He showed me how to find hope in my life and the way to follow His Word to build up a closer relationship with Him. I know God always keeps an eye on me by the Spirit.

THIRD DAY: Read Exodus 12:31-13:16.

The death of all the firstborn affects a nation tremendously because every house has someone dead, every family were wailing for their lost, so whole nation was fallen with sadness.

God set apart every firstborn in Israel for Himself when God struck down all the firstborn in Egypt.

Israel is God’s firstborn son.

I repented my sins before Jesus. I am Jesus’ follower. I am His heir. I’ve been set apart for God that I shall live my life for Him only. However, most of the time I am still weak as a human. I am trying to hold tight with His Word in my heart and my life.

God gave the Israelites detailed instruction what they would need when they're leaving Egypt and let they plundered the Egyptians for future material needs.

Q7.

I think instructions about the celebration of the Passover by foreigners are necessary to foretell the salvation will be given to the gentile as well.

SECOND DAY: Read Exodus 11:1-12:30.

Lord told Moses the Pharaoh would let the Israelites go completely after the 10th plague on Pharaoh and Egypt. And the Lord will make the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people. The Israelites will have the silver and gold from the Egyptians.

b.

Moses said to Pharaoh, “This is what the Lord says: ‘About midnight (time) I will go throughout Egypt. 5 Every firstborn son in Egypt will die (what will happen), from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn son of the female slave, who is at her hand mill, and all the firstborn of the cattle as well. 6 There will be loud wailing throughout Egypt (outcome)—worse than there has ever been or ever will be again. 7 But among the Israelites not a dog will bark at any person or animal.’ Then you will know that the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel (exception). 8 All these officials of yours will come to me, bowing down before me and saying, ‘Go, you and all the people who follow you!’ (final destiny) After that I will leave.”

Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he would not let the Israelites go out of his country.

Q4.

a.

The Lord’s instructions about the Passover: on the 10th day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family according the person number. 5 The sheep or the goats must be year-old males without defect. Take care of them until the 14th day of the month, and then slaughter them at twilight. Then put the blood on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses. That same night to eat the roasted meat, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast. Burn down the leftover food. Eat it in haste with the cloak tucked into belt, sandals on the feet and the staff in hand.

13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.

Jesus has been sacrificed as the true Passover Lamb to take away the sin of the world.

FIFTH DAY: Read Exodus 9:13-10:29.

Q10. What is new or different in each of the seventh, eighth and ninth plagues?

There is new that some of the Egyptians start to fear and believe in God in the 7th plague. Even the magicians urged Pharaoh to let the Israelites go in the 8th plague. One different is Pharaoh start to bargain before the locusts plague said, “only the men go”.  Pharaoh said, “Even your women and children may go with you” in the 9th plague.

a. Describe the bargain Pharaoh was trying to make with Moses.

The bargain Pharaoh was trying to make with Moses about not to let all people or livestock go, so the Israelites must turn back later.

b. What bargains do people try to make with God?

We often bargain with God for our own earthly benefit.

Q12. In Exodus 6:30 Moses showed a lack of confidence by saying “Since I speak with faltering lips, why would Pharaoh listen to me?” In Exodus 10:24-29 Moses is totally different. After went through 9 plagues God sent. Not only Moses himself the Israelites also believed that the Lord would surely deliver them out of Egypt. Moses’ faith increased so he answered Pharaoh firmly; “Just as you say” “I will never appear before you again.” It shows that he’s confident with what he says also his words became more wise and sharp.

FOURTH DAY: Read Exodus 8:20-9:12.

God sent swarms of flies on Pharaoh and Egyptians but dealt differently with the land of Goshen, where the Israelites live; no swarms of flies will be there. God made a distinction between the Israelites and the Egyptians.

It might need to take one day to make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt.

God knows everything including those details. He must know how weak I am and He will guard my way and show my path because He knows I depend on Him.

He amazed what happened so he investigated and found that not even one of the animals of the Israelites had died. Yet his heart was unyielding to let the people go.

"No", Generally, sickness is not the consequence of a particular sin that a person committed. Sickness is not the result of personal sin. It is the consequence from Adam's and Eve's original sin. It is a consequence of man's separation from God.

In John 9:1-3 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

Sometime "Yes", in Genesis 12:17 But the Lord inflicted serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram’s wife Sarai. Similar things happened again in Exodus.

THIRD DAY: Read Exodus 7:14-8:19.

Blood-God’s command: “Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt… and they will turn to blood.”

This is what the Lord says.

It’s a statement about what Moses tells Pharaoh is the word of God. It’s God’s order.

When we study Bible we study God’s word. It’s a direct connection between God and us. We should follow what we heard from the Holy Spirit.

SECOND DAY: Read Exodus 6:28-7:13.

Exodus 6:12 But Moses said to the Lord, “If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips?”

Exodus 6:30 But Moses said to the Lord, “Since I speak with faltering lips, why would Pharaoh listen to me?”

Moses doubted his own ability that he can’t even convince his own people how can he go convince Pharaoh.

b. 

With man it may be impossible but with God all things are possible. The Lord said to Moses “I have made you like God to Pharaoh, not a god, the God. Wow! Aaron will be your prophet. You don’t need to worry about what to say to Pharaoh. Aaron will do the talking. Just do what I command you.

God knows everything, my good and my weak. Stop worrying and trust Him that He will show me the way to live a life for Him.

Q4. Read Proverbs 28:14; Zechariah 7:12. The Lord promised to harden Pharaoh’s heart.

3 But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt, 4 he will not listen to you.

Proverbs 28:14 Blessed is the one who always trembles before God, but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.

Zechariah 7:12 They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the Lord Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the Lord Almighty was very angry.

a. 

The Lord blesses those peoples who fear Him, but Pharaoh will be in trouble by not listening to God's words that the Lord has sent by Moses because whoever hardens their hearts fall into trouble.

b. 

Egypt would be in trouble because the Lord was very angry. God will lay His hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment.”

c.

When a nation's ruler has a hard heart against God that nation won’t be existed long with God's mighty acts of judgment.

The 1st plaques broke out in 65AD, the same year emperor Nero killed himself. 

The 2nd plaques broke out when co-emperors Marcus Aurelius (Antoninus) and Lucius Verus repressed the Syrian rebellion and brought back the disease to Ancient Rome.

The 3rd plaque called the Plague of Cyprian that this plague may have been a key driving force behind the spread of Christianity in the Empire.

In Ancient Rome, plague broke out frequently, which made roman society turbulent, and social beliefs went into crisis. The traditional religions could not respond to the changing situations, while Christianity took advantage of it and defeated traditional religion whether in spiritual and practical realms, and then was regarded as state religion.
