FIFTH DAY: Read Exodus 2:1-10.

Q11.

a. List ways God arranged for Moses’ safety and adoption by Pharaoh’s daughter.

God let the Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank.  

God arranged she saw the basket among the reeds.

In God’s will that she felt sorry when she saw the Hebrew baby crying. Hence she allowed the Hebrew women to nurse the baby.

b. How might she have known that Moses was a Hebrew baby?

It’s the Pharaoh’s order that: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile.”

c. What characteristics do you see in Moses’ sister, who would have been at least 8 years old at this time?

Moses’ sister showed her love and care to her baby brother that she stood at a distance to see what would happen to Moses. She’s also smart by saying to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?”  Moses’ sister went and got her mother.

a. List the advantages to Moses of living as a young child with his own mother.

Besides the better nurturing and careful babysitting, the culture and law from God to Israel also have imprinted in Moses’ heart.

b. Read Acts 7:20-22. What advantages did Moses receive as the adopted son of Pharaoh’s daughter?

Pharaoh’s daughter took him and brought him up as her own son. So Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.

c. What advantages have you experienced because of the family or families in which God placed you as a child? How will you thank God for these things?

Both my mother and father came from destitute families and they were diligent people. I appreciate they taught me became a diligent worker and have been educated well. I thank God for what I have and what I've lost. I’d like to use what I have learned to glory God’s kingdom.

d. How do the circumstances of Moses’ birth and childhood encourage you to trust God?

Moses is an adopted kid. I guess there must be contradictions in his childhood because the Egyptian and himself see he is not an Egyptian, neither the Israelites see him an Israelite. However, those arrangements all came from God’s great plan to train Moses as a leader to bring Israelite out of Egypt.  As well as the challenges we had or will have in our life may be the same case.

FOURTH DAY: Read Exodus 1:22-2:10.

Q9. What were the names of Moses’ father, mother, brother and sister? (See Exodus 6:20; 15:20)

Moses’ father is a man of the house of Levi (Amram 暗蘭139歲); mother is a Levite woman (his father’s sister 姑姑 Jochebed 約基別). Moses’ brother (Aaron 亞倫) & sister (Miriam the prophetess 米利暗).

a. Read Hebrews 11:1, 6, 23. How were Moses’ parents able to hide him?

By faith Moses’ parents were not afraid of the king’s edict and they hid Moses for three months.

b. (Challenge) Which promises of God might they have known and looked for God to keep?

In Genesis 12, God says to Abram “I will make you into a great nation.

In Genesis 15, God says to Abram “Look up at the heavens and count the starts-if indeed you can count them, so shall your offspring be.”

In Genesis 17, God says to Abram “I will confirm my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.”

In Genesis 18, God says to Abraham “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do? Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him. For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”

c. How did Moses’ mother’s actions blend faith and careful planning?

She hid him for three months until she could hide him no longer. She got a basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. And let Moses’ sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him.

d. How did God bless her courageous faith?

God let Pharaoh’s daughter found Moses and let his own mother could have the chance to nurse her baby.

e. Tell of a time when you carefully planned but also trusted God with the outcome?

I believe in God's plan that a wedding and new job will happen in my life, so I have bought a new apartment prepared for those changes.

THIRD DAY: Read Exodus 1:22.

Q6.

a. What was Pharaoh’s third plan to control the Hebrews?  

Every Hebrew boy that is born must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.

b. When have your problems increased, even as you trusted and obeyed God?

Personal question. Yes, I tried to hold on there when my problem increased and waited for God’s timing because I have trusted and obeyed Him.

Q7. What do you learn about God and the suffering of His people from these verses?

Genesis 15:13-14

God has a long-term plan for our lives and it will bring beneficial for us to the end. When we face challenge or suffering we need to trust in God more.

Isaiah 43:1-4

We are precious and honored in God’s sight. Because God loves us, He will protect us, redeem us and save us from trials.

John 16:33

We will have trouble in this world but in God we will have peace because Jesus has overcome the world.

2 Corinthians 1

When we felt we had received the death sentence Jesus comforts us in all our troubles. If we rely on God but not on ourselves we can also comfort those in any trouble.

Q8.

a. How would knowledge of God’s promise to Abram have affected the Hebrews as they faced a hostile culture and persecution? (See Genesis 15:13-16.)

They would be more perseverance with hope and strength in hearts when they were strangers in a country not their own because they knew God’s promise to Abram they would come back to the promise land 400 years after.

b. What promises of God motivate you to live openly for Him in your culture or to persevere in a current difficulty?  

Jesus redeems me from all sins I made. He took away my yoke when I had depression. Now He guides me in my daily life. I can live openly for Him in any time.

SECOND DAY: Read Exodus 1:1-21.

Q3.  Read Genesis 15; 45:4-18; 46:3-4, 26-27. Why were the Israelites, the descendants of Abraham (Abram) and Jacob, in Egypt?

It is God’s plan that for 400 years the descendants of Abraham would be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there. However, they also came out with great possessions afterward (Genesis 15:13-14) and were made a great nation there (Genesis 46:3-4, 26-27).

In Genesis 45:5-7, God sent Joseph ahead of his family to preserve them a remnant on earth and to save their lives by a great deliverance before the 2 years famine and 5 years no plowing and reaping.

a. What did the new king, who did not know about Joseph, fear?

The new king feared the Israelites became far too numerous for the Egypt.

b. Who was his first strategy to control the Israelites? (See Exodus 1:9-14)

They put slave masters over the Israelites to oppress them with forced labor.

c. What were the two results of the first stage of persecution?

More the Israelites were oppressed the more they multiplied and spread.

d. What was the king’s second plan to control the Hebrews? (See Exodus 1:15-21.)

The king of Egypt told the midwives to kill the newborn boys of Hebrew.

a. What risks did Shiphrah and Puah take? What motivated them?

They risked their lives, because they feared of God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do.

b. What does God’s response to the midwives teach you about Him?

God was kind to the midwives. God is faithful to he whom fears God.

FIFTH DAY: Read Matthew 28:16-20.

Q11. What does “authority” mean? Use a dictionary or your own words.

: the power to give orders or make decisions : the power or right to direct or control someone or something

: the confident quality of someone who knows a lot about something or who is respected or obeyed by other people

: a quality that makes something seem true or real

a. Give the principle command and the great promise Jesus made.

Go and make disciples of all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

teaching them to obey everything Jesus have commanded us.

Jesus is with us always, to the very end of the age.

b. What repeated word or ideas show the scope (influence) of Jesus’ command?

The scope of Jesus’ command includes in heaven, on earth, and all nations.

c. What did Jesus say we are to do when we make disciples?

To baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

To teach them to obey everything Jesus have commanded us.

d. Exactly how could you fulfill Jesus’ command in your present situation?

To pray for preparing heart that to share the good news more often.

e. Why should Jesus’ authority and promise encourage you to fulfill His command?

Jesus is with us always, and to the very end of the age.

Q13. How could Christ’s resurrection change your daily life in practical ways? Give a different aspect from each passage below:

Romans 5:10

We have been justified by the blood of Jesus, then we will be saved through Christ’s resurrection from all sins, rejoice in God and live a new life.

2 Corinthians 4:10-18

If we carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so the life of Jesus will be revealed in our mortal body because God will also raise us with Jesus.

Galatians 2:20

Christ’s resurrection change our daily life for I no longer live, but Christ lives in me, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Philippians 3:10

To know Jesus, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his suffering, becoming like him in his death.

Colossians 3:1-4

We have been raised with Christ. Set our minds on things above, not on earthly things. Jesus Christ is our life, appears, then we also will appear with him in glory.

Lesson 29, Q9~Q10

FOURTH DAY: Read Matthew 28:1-15; Acts 1:3-11.

Q9. Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-19 about why Jesus’ bodily resurrection is essential.

a. How does the Bible prove Jesus’ actual body and not simply His spirit was resurrected? Use verses from today’s reading and any of the Gospels.

Acts 1:1-4

He presented himself to people and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive.

He appeared to them over a period of 40 days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

He broke the bread and ate with the people. He gave them the command.

Mathew 28:9

The women clasped Jesus’ feet and worshiped him.

John 20:17

Jesus said to Mary “No not hold on to me…”

John 20:27

Jesus said to Thomas ”Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

Luke 24:39

Jesus said “Look at my hands and my feet. It’s I myself! Touch me and see a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”

b. What are the results of not believing in the bodily resurrection of the dead?

If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and our faith is useless as well. Then we are still in our sins.

Q10. From the following verses, why is Jesus’ physical resurrection important?

John 10:17-18

To prove the love and authority from the Father that Jesus received from the Father to lay down his life and to take it up again.

Acts 2:31 with Psalm 16:10

To fulfill the prophet that Jesus’ was not abandoned to the realm of dead (grave), nor did his body see decay.

Acts 17:30-31

God has set a day to judge the world with justice by Jesus and has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.

1 Corinthians 15:45-58

It fulfilled the prophet “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” The perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. Then we from the natural will be changed to the spiritual by clothing the imperishable, the immortality.

Ephesians 1:18-20;

It’s God’s mighty strength to raise Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms. Our sins were therefore buried with him through baptism into death through the glory of the Father, we may live a new life.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

We have the hope because we believe Jesus died and rose again, that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

Hebrews 7:16, 23-28

On the basis of the power of an indestructible life Jesus has become a priest and because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. He is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

1 Peter 1:3-5

God has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish. This inheritance is kept in heaven for us through faith.

Lesson 29, Q6~Q8

THIRD DAY: Read John 20:1-18; Luke 24:12-32.

Q6. What was it about the linen cloths that convinced John of Jesus’ resurrection?

He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen.

John found the cloth it had been wrapped around Jesus’ head was lying in its place, separate from the linen. If someone stole Jesus’ body and took the cloth and linen off, then the two items most likely would be thrown in the same place.

Q7. Read John 10:3-5, 14, 27-28. Use these verses to describe the relationship between:

Jesus knows his own sheep and calls his sheep by name, and His sheep follow Jesus. When Jesus called “Mary” [Jn 20:16], Mary recognizes to Jesus’ voice. She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!”

b. (Personal) Can you share an experience of Jesus speaking to you personally during your study of Matthew this year?

a. Give a lesson you learned from any part of the Luke passage.

After revealed to women, Jesus revealed to two less important men. Jesus not only opened their eyes, He also opened their minds by explaining to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. They found their hearts burning within them while Jesus talked on the road and opened the Scriptures to them.

b. How and when do you plan to put this lesson into practice?

Preaching is powerful. It will warm the hearts of the true believer. We should try harder to preach or to share the good news to others.
