Lesson 24, Q8~Q9

FOURTH DAY: Read Matthew 24:24-36.
Q8. a. From this passage, give events and signs that immediately precede Christ’s return to earth.
False messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs to deceive people.
The Son of Man will be coming from the east.
The sun and moon will all be darkened, no stars in the sky.
The heavenly bodies will be shaken.
All peoples of the earth will mourn for Jesus.
Jesus will be coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.
Angels will blow loud trumpet call.
His elect will gather from the four winds, from everywhere.
b. What do you learn about the Lord’s return from these verses?
Zechariah 12:10
Jerusalem will mourn for Jesus as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for Him as one grieves for a firstborn son.
Matthew 24:30
Son of Man will be coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory
Revelation 1:7
Jesus will be coming with the clouds and all peoples on earth will mourn because of Him.
c. What do you learn in verse 36 about setting specific dates for Christ’s return?
The day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

Q9. (Challenge) How do you interpret Jesus’ words in verse 32?
Matthew 21:19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.
It is like the fruit of the fig tree appear before the leaves, so there will be many signs for the elect to know when it is near.
The fruit of the fig tree appears before the leaves, as we learned in the story of the withered fig tree (Matthew 21:19). Jesus reminded the disciples the fruit is a symbol that reveals the fig tree would be useful or not as well as there will be many signs for the elect to know the secret in the time of the end.
