2014 BSF "The Life of Moses" Lesson 9, Q11~Q11

FIFTH DAY: Read Exodus 24.

mediator of the new covenant: Jesus because
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,
Hebrews 8:6 But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.
Hebrews 12:24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
Jesus gave himself as a ransom for all men (1 Timothy 2:6) through His blood.

27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

People are trying to become right with God through our works. But we can never change our sinful nature that lead to death.
The desire and ability to obey God shall be an outgrowth of our faith in Jesus. Because with the blood of Jesus, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so we may be able to serve the living God.

Moses brought them to meet with the God of Israel. They saw God (v10), and ate and drank there (v11).

three symbols of God’s glory: Up on the mountain, cloud, and fire.

Clouds represent unlimited extent of God.

FOURTH DAY: Read Exodus 23.

Not blindly follow the crowd in doing wrong, be strong and wise in God. Analyze those things in God’s way not by man’s way.

Sabbath laws and keep festival 3 times a year in remember God who brought them out of Egypt, be careful to do everything God have said, rest in Sabbath for worshiping God, offer the firstfruit to God.
c.
God’s character shows in demanding the people to help the poor (merciful), not put any innocent person to death (justice), rest the fields (wisdom), and He is the only God and worth all our worship (sacred).

20 “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared. 21 Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive your rebellion, since my Name is in him.
Joshua said to the people, "You are not able to serve the LORD. He is a holy God; he is a jealous God. He will not forgive your rebellion and your sins.
The angel is God in person, Jesus is given the authority to judge in God’s Name.

20 “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.
22 If you listen carefully to what he says and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you.
23 My angel will go ahead of you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out.
25 Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you,
26 and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span.
27 “I will send my terror ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you encounter. I will make all your enemies turn their backs and run.
30 Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.
31 “I will establish your borders from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the desert to the Euphrates River. I will give into your hands the people who live in the land, and you will drive them out before you.
c. God require:
21 Pay attention to him (the angel) and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him.
24 Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces.
25 Worship the Lord your God, 
32 Do not make a covenant with them or with their gods.
33 Do not let them live in your land.

a. How do you see God’s patient and wise care of Israel in verses 27-30?
God’s patient and wise care of Israel is shown in His detail plan to help them take possession of the land by confusing their enemies, sending hornet to drive enemies out, and waiting for Israel increase enough.
b. How have you experienced God’s patience and wisdom as He has helped you battle one of your spiritual enemies?
God has been always patient to me when I was confused by the pressure from my work. Again and again He showed mercy and guidance to me.

THIRD DAY: Read Exodus 21:33-22:31.
Q5.

21:33-36
If we made a careless-mistake and cause other people lose their property or money we have to make a fair compensation for other people’s loss [lɔs].
22:1-4
If a person did a wicked sin for his selfish purpose and cause someone’s loss we often punished the bad person to pay back more than he gained from the bad deed he committed.
22:5-6
If a person damaged other people’s property he have to pay back.
22:7-15
If a person stole other’s property he have to pay back double.
d.
If I hurt someone or damaged their property I should make restitution.
Q6.

Seduce premarital sex (v 16-17);
Wicked witch (v 18);
Have sex with an animal (v 19); 
Worship other gods (v 20); 
Mistreat an alien (v 21).  
Take advantage of a widow or an orphan (v 22-24); 
Earn money from those needy people (v 25-27); 
Blaspheme God or curse the ruler of your people (v 28); 
Hold back offering to God (v 29); 
Give the firstborn to God (v 29-30); 
Eat the animal meat torn by wild beasts (v 31).

SECOND DAY: Read Exodus 21:1-36.

God gave such specific laws to Israel but not to other nations: Out of all nations Israel was chosen to be God’s treasured possession to obey and keep God’s covenant, so Israel would be a kingdom of priest and a holy nation for God.
c. people God calls: more accountable than others
Isaiah 42:1
The Servant of the Lord
“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations.
Isaiah 42:1 said, God delights the chosen one; God puts His Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations. Since the chose one is given the Spirit from God, he will be more accountable than others.
1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
1 Peter 2:9 said, a chosen people is God’s special possession. He will be called out of darkness into his wonderful light. Since the chose one is protected and blessed from God, he will be more accountable than others.
d.
Increasing my faith that God will protect me, save me and the Spirit will guide me through all my darkness, so I will be more accountable than others.
I am taking more responsibility to love those people around me as God commit us to obey Him and live our life for Him only.
Q4.
Make a fair rule for Israelites, including servant management, protecting the weak, forbid the criminal among people. And teach them to become conscious of their sin.

FIFTH DAY: Read Exodus 20:18-26.
Q10.
a. 2 kinds of fear
19 To fear if God speak to us we will die because we are not holy.
20 The fear of God keeps us from sinning against Him.
b.
The 1st fear let us understand we are not worthy. We shall be humble not proud and obey God.
The 2nd fear keeps us from sinning. It serves as a warning.
c.
To be honest, because I am lack of confidence of myself, the 1st fear discourages me sometime. It negative affects me being worthless that God could take away anything at any time.
Q11.
a. basis for worship
Knowing He is the true and only God.
God has revealed and spoken from heaven that God is 100% real and the only one worth for all our worship.
b. God forbid
To make any idol of silver or gold.
c. apply to our worship of God
Knowing He is the true and only God.
We should apply the truth into our worship of God in our daily life that God is unique and the only One. I appreciate God would take me as His child to love me and be with me all the time. I shall also be holy for God as my worship of Him.
Q12. simple altars of earth or plain stones
25 If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it. 26 And do not go up to my altar on steps, or your private parts may be exposed.’
Q13. A wonderful promise
God will come to us and bless us in all places where His name to be honored. He will always answer our prayers and bless us when we honor His name by our daily life and by our work.

2014 BSF "The Life of Moses" Lesson 8, Q9

FOURTH DAY: Read Exodus 20:12-17.
The last 6 commandments: the people’s relationships with other people.
Q9. 
Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 5:16
Commandment - 12 Honor your father and your mother.
Promise - you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Deuteronomy 5:16, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
Ask God –May God bless my father a chance to know Jesus.
Exodus 20:13
Commandment - 13 You shall not murder.
Ask God –May God deliver us from evil and never put me a though of murdering anyone directly nor indirectly.
Exodus 20:14
Commandment - 14 You shall not commit adultery.
Ask God -May God forgive our desire and deliver us from evil.
Exodus 20:15
Commandment - 15 You shall not steal.
Ask God –May God forgive our desire and deliver us from evil.
Exodus 20:16
Commandment - 16 You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
Ask God –May God forgive our tongue and deliver us from evil.
Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21
Commandment - 17 You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
Ask God –May God deliver us from evil.

2014 BSF "The Life of Moses" Lesson 8, Q7~Q8

THIRD DAY: Read Exodus 20:1-11.
The first four commandments apply to the people’s relationship with God.
Q7.
a. God identify Himself to the Israelites:
I am the Lord your God, I am your savior brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
b.
Yes, I have redeemed from the empty way of life by the precious blood of Christ.
Q8.
Exodus 20:3
Commandment -We shall have no other gods.
Warning or promise -none
Ask God -Deliver us from evil.
Exodus 20:4-6
Commandment -We shall no make any idols.
Warning or promise -God is a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the 3rd and 4th generation of those who hate God, but showing love to 1000 generations of those who love God and His commandments.
Ask God - Deliver us from bow down or worship to all kind of earthly desire.
Exodus 20:7
Commandment -We shall not misuse the name of God.
Warning or promise -The Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
Ask God – To keep my tongue clean.
Exodus 20:8-11; Deuteronomy 5:12-15
Commandment - Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
Warning or promise - Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God.
Ask God – Strength us to work hard on all weekdays. Save Sunday for God only.

2014 BSF "The Life of Moses" Lesson 8, Q3~Q6

SECOND DAY: Read Exodus 19.
Q3. From Deuteronomy 32:11 & Exodus 19:4:
I learned from “I carried you on eagles’ wings” that God told Moses the Israelites are God’s children and God has led them out of Egypt just like the eagle has caught its young and carried them aloft.
Q4.
a. 
God requires the people to consecrate themselves today and tomorrow, wash their clothes, and be ready by the third day, Put limits for the people around the mountain, Abstain from sexual relations. 10-15
b. 3-part blessing God promised:
1. God carried the people out of Egypt. V4
2. You will be my treasured possession if you obey me fully and keep my covenant. V5
3. You will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. V6
The people all responded together, “We will do everything the Lord has said.” V8
c. My responded to the blessings of the New Covenant that God gives Christians:
We are the chosen people have received mercy from God. We shall obey Him fully and be holy and sharing the gospel for His kingdom.
Q5. The Lord reinforce Moses’ position:
God came to Moses in a cloud, so that the people could hear God speaking with Moses to let them trust Moses as a leader.
Q6.
a. God limits the place: 
The people learned they are not worthy and only the authorized one could get closer to the holy place to meet God.
b.
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we have gained access into this grace to have peace with God.
